Sprague Hopes ‘Monkey’ Will Bring More Luck At Texas Motor Speedway

Jack Sprague and the No. 60 Con-way Freight team’s mascot, ‘Monkey,’ will once again travel with the team to Texas Motor Speedway in hopes of bringing some more good luck and another solid race run. ‘Monkey’ will ride to Texas in the driver’s seat of Sprague’s race truck, which is carried in the back of the hauler, all the way to the Fort Worth race track. Since joining the team, ‘Monkey’ has helped deliver one victory (Martinsville) and another top-10 (Atlanta).

“‘Monkey’ has been a great addition to our team,” Sprague said. “The guys have a lot of fun having ‘Monkey’ around the track. ‘Monkey’ has sat on top of the pit box for the past two races, and she’ll be there again this week – cheering us on to another good finish. We were robbed at Texas in the spring, so we want to make up for that this weekend.

“We easily had a top-five at Texas this past spring. I had a great hot rod that I could put anywhere on the race track. We were one of the best trucks there, but with seven laps to go, we got spun out by a lap truck. We had to pit for fresh tires, and that cost us a top-10 finish and some points. As competitive as the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is, that small spin was a big deal. We’re going back to Texas this weekend with the attitude that we’re there to take care of some unfinished business. We’re out of the championship chase, but we can still get into the top five in points and we can still win races – and that is what we plan to do.”

Career at Texas Motor Speedway:

Sprague has 16 career starts at Texas Motor Speedway in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck, Busch and Nextel Cup Series combined. Sprague has two wins at the 1.5-mile oval. He has only two starts at Texas in the No. 60 Toyota – garnering a sixth-place and an 11th-place finish.

With two wins in the Lone Star State, Sprague knows what it takes to get to Victory Lane at Texas.

“You have to have a lot of horsepower under the hood, and that is a non-issue with our Toyota motor. We have the horsepower. You also have to handle well. We weren’t perfect at Texas this past spring, but we weren’t bad either. The guys made adjustments during the race, and when it was all said and done, I had a good piece. I’m confident we’ll have a fast truck there this weekend, too.”
